Weather data API licence for software vendors

Put design conditions, Manual J inputs, climate factors and EnergyPlus weather files inside your own product, priced by lookups and file blocks, with the rights to deliver them to your customers.

Who this is for

Software that needs weather inside its own workflow: HVAC load-calculation and heat-pump sizing tools, energy-modelling and BIM platforms, data-centre and real-estate climate-risk platforms, and consultancies that run the same lookup for every project. Your users get the values without leaving your product.

What you can call

REST API with an OpenAPI description (API docs), a Python package and an MCP server for AI assistants. Methods and accuracy are published on the methodology and validation pages.

Lookup plans

Weather-file blocks

Files your product generates and delivers to its own customers. A future-climate file counts as 3. Blocks do not expire for 24 months.

Frequently asked questions

Can I resell EPW.tools data inside my software?

Yes. A licence lets you embed design conditions, climate factors and weather files in your product and deliver them to your customers. Reselling the data as a standalone dataset is not included.

How is a lookup counted?

One API call that returns values for one location, such as design conditions or Manual J inputs for an address. Generating a weather file is counted from a file block instead.

Is there a trial?

Yes: 30 days with 500 lookups and 25 files on a separate key, free. Email [email protected] with your product name.

Do I have to show the EPW.tools name?

A short credit ("Weather data: EPW.tools") in your documentation or interface is part of the standard licence. White-label use without the credit costs 30 % more.

Which data sources are behind the values?

NOAA station observations, ERA5 and MERRA-2 reanalysis, NSRDB and CAMS satellite solar, and CMIP6 climate models for the future; each file records its sources.
